Mar06 DIY T-Shirt Dress 2013

Our wonderful friend and photographer Kelli Avila sent us these adorable pictures of her daughter, who has so much personality its oozing from my computer screen. Kelli did this little shoot because her daughter adored one of Kelli’s old T-shirts and instead of hiding it, throwing it away or being embarrassed, she just turned it into the cutest little T-shirt dress. Lily wears that thing with so much conviction I’m pretty sure it’s a new trend that I must be a part of.

“often she wanders into my room and rummages through my things to come out layered in a number of mixed match items that she’s determined to wear as if they fit or even look good. this shirt is one of those items. it’s a very old shirt that i stole from my brother and she loves it as if that questionable image on the front was a sweet little angel and it read “princess and the pop star.” it surely does not. i decided if she was going wear it, it might as well fit her. so, out comes the sewing machine, and in a whole 15 minutes she had a new dress. quality sewing not necessary. she was so excited she yelled, “OMG!” i both love and hate that she says that but what’s a girl to do when her mom alters a vintage Led Zeppelin t-shirt into a fab mini dress?!” -Kelli

How To:  ”I simply traced another dress with a cut I liked onto a paper bag and used it as my pattern. I then cut the shirt in half; front and back and cut out my pattern. I sewed the edges but left the sleeves and bottom un-hemmed. That’s it. Every little girl should have Led Zeppelin t-shirt dress for Spring.”
