Sep17 Into the West 2013

Here’s our second installment of a series filled with the most amazing kids parties from Fire&Creme and photographed by the talented Sophie Jacobson of Love Bucket Photo.

Fire & Creme Kids is so wonderful because you can buy one of their party boxes and it comes with all the goodies you need to throw your own extravagant party. You can buy either tableware, decorations or goodie bags or if you want the full experience you can purchase all three. The theme of today’s feature is Into the West…not just inspiration but you can actually do this exact same perfect party.

Grey likes appropriating Aboriginal culture and supporting companies that do? I am also sad to see.

Please don’t promote this. It is visually beautiful, but that does not make it right. Less than a century ago Native Americans were forbidden from wearing their traditional clothing by white people, and while those laws were thankfully abolished it is still horribly ignorant and privileged of Caucasians to think that we can just grab whatever we want because we think it’s pretty from 500+ cultures that we subjugated.
There is great symbolism in those feather headdresses. Traditionally each feather was earned by the wearer for some great deed. They are not for a children’s party. How would you feel if people started sporting Medals of Honor because they thought they “looked fun!”?

Finally: Would you dress up your child in blackface? And base a party around it? No? Then why are you doing it with Native American stereotypes? Because that is what this is: teaching kids it’s okay to dress up in redface. For fun. This is not “honoring” anyone, it’s treating them like a consumable toy.
